This series will be important for Rohit and company for the World Test Championship final to be held next year. India and Australia are currently in the top two positions in the World Test Championship points table. However, former Australian captain and one of the greatest batsmen Ricky Ponting has asked his own team to be careful. In particular, he has asked the Australian team to be careful with Rishabh Pant. Ponting said in a statement to Sky Sports, 'We have all seen him play and heard him in the stump mic. He likes to be around the team and take everyone along. He loves his cricket. He is a winning player. He does not play matches just to score some runs and have fun. Pant has already scored four or five Test centuries and he has scored nine times in the 90s. MS Dhoni played 90 Tests and scored three or four centuries (Dhoni scored 6 Test centuries). This proves how good Pant is. He is a serious cricketer.' Ponting was Pant's coach at Delhi Capitals and was in constant touch with him during his rehabilitation process. Ponting praised Pant for his premature comeback despite the mental and physical challenges. He said, 'It has been a great comeback story. If you look at his leg now and listen to the stories he faced during his car accident, you can feel the mental stress, but Pant went through physical rehabilitation with a strong mindset. I did not think he would play in the last IPL (2024).' Ponting said, 'But 12 months ago he told me 'Don't worry about me, I guarantee you I will be right for the IPL'. We thought he would be able to bat and we might have to use him as an impact player, but he played every role. He was one of our leading run-scorers. He batted at number three in the T20 World Cup and was part of the World Cup-winning team. Now he has also returned to the Test team.'
